What we fail to see of Jesus at the cross

As He was dying on the cross, Jesus rebuked his mother Mary.  Indeed, He referred to her as a woman which, though this violates our religious nature, put her in her place as a wretch.  The Almighty wasn't just brought to us, but raised up in this world.  Furthermore, He was raised up to us as the Son of Man, as the most worthless of all the offspring.  In order to glorify Himself, He gave Himself to be raised by Mary with her being the most worthless of all the wretches.

We have to push beyond the dramatic to see this better.

To achieve this, we have to realize a paradox.  While the Almighty was suffering the most horrible fate being stripped naked and spit upon -- put to death as the most foolish of losers and in the most humiliating of ways -- we can also see a little wink on His expression, as He didn't have a problem in the world at the time being that He was the Almighty.  In this way, Jesus established Himself as a foundation under foot for the many nameless and faceless among the multitude.

Knowing exactly what to do towards the end, Jesus transfigured Himself into the person of John as the lowest of His disciples.  He then made Mary continue to raise John as Himself.  Now, just how did He manage to accomplish all of this you might ask?  Well, let's read:

Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman (most wretched), here is your son.” And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.
The part in parenthesis is my interpretation.
